Fishin notions, will you comment please?

Inspired by Brad F. and my love of fishin.

He was buried, at his request
in his well worn fishin vest
with his favorite lures pinned on
as badges for his many conquests.

He'd fished this lake since he was a boy
his father taught him the tricks to employ
"Are ya gonna use worms? Or that orange popper?
and please be quiet, just enjoy."

Now as before he was there gazin, deluded, at his reflection
diagnosed, "We didn't catch it in time" the inflection
he wanted to know, recall the joy once felt, but
ready to toss his gear in a final act, a state of dejection

Not quite ready yet, he sat and touched
spinners, fake minnows, feathered flies were brushed
but felt generous too and brought night crawlers
tossed a line with no hook, escaped the feelin of crushed

"Today I will not take you away
I will not catch and cook your fillets
I will feed you these fat wigglers, fresh dug
and pray you live to see another day."

Very nice, I did enjoy it, I like that i got to laugh at the end. Good job Texas, It tells a rather nice story. I'm glad i was able to trigger something good for you to write.

Chum Recipe:

Chop bread in processor
Dump 12 cans of cat food into bucket, mixing in bread with small amounts of water. Consistency desired like thick soup
Stir in 2 cups of Pogy oil, evenly distributed
Take off gas mask and drink one cold beer a safe distance from bucket
Fill freezer bags and double bag

Ha ha…loved this 'cause I'm a lover of fishing and the last stanza made me think of the "Art of Chumming"

Lay bags flat in kitchen freezer
Transport chum in designated chum cooler with ice over and under
Use ½ bag at a time ( fits perfectly into a standard nylon chum bag)

I've been baited, and almost caught,
but managed to escape with my tail intact…
Have never gone fishing though!

Interesting, and away from your usual style…

My cousin has a coon dog which is baying at a raccoon in a tree on his tombstone. I see nothing wrong with what he did, if it was me when I died and my ashes spread o'er lake.

I like the way you illustrate a universal feeling in this short poem. A softer side of mortality. Nice job.

Very, very good.

It was about a lifetime fisherman who caught cancer and reflected at his last fishing trip by giving the fish a free meal ?

Nice story here Dallas which I enjoyed. The ending especially so. He allowed the fish to live, he knew his time was up.
