CONSEQUENCES
One sunny summer day, a fly was flitting about above a river while below the surface a fish watched the fly. The fish thought to himself, "If that fly falls 6 inches, I shall be able to jump out and catch him for my meal." As the fish contemplated the falling of the fly, on the left bank of the river sat a bear. The bear watched the fish watching the fly. "You know," thought the bear, "if that fly drops 6 inches, and that fish jumps up to catch it, I can wade in and get that fish for my midday snack."
Now, on the right bank of this river sat a hunter who spied the bear, watching the fish, contemplating the fly. The hunter thought to himself, "If that fly drops 6 inches, the fish will jump for it, and the bear will wade in after the fish. If he does that, I can take aim, shoot that bear and have a nice rug for my den."

Behind the hunter, in the brush, a mouse spied a cheese sandwich in the hunter's vest pocket. The mouse thought, "If that fly over the water drops 6 inches, the fish will jump for it. Then, the bear across the river will wade in to catch that fish, and the hunter will bend over to get a good shot at that bear. If the hunter bends over, that sandwich is going to fall from his pocket, and I'll have a nice piece of cheese for my meal."

Now, on a flat rock, just beyond the bushes, sat a cat lazily watching the events developing before her. Her thoughts: "If that fly drops 6 inches, the fish will jump, the bear will wade in after the fish, the hunter will bend forward to shoot the bear, the mouse will dash for the cheese sandwich, and I'll have myself a nice rodent snack!"

Well, as in most tales, all of a sudden the scene unfolds. The fly DOES drop the 6 inches, the fish DOES jump up and catch the fly, the bear WADES in and catches the fish, the hunter leans over and shoots the bear, the sandwich falls out of his pocket, the mouse snatches the cheese from the sandwich, and the cat pounces for the mouse… but misses and falls into the river.

The moral of this tale: When a fly drops 6 inches, the pussy gets wet.
